SPAN Legal Advocates assist and support survivors of domestic violence as they engage with the civil legal system and in limited circumstances the criminal legal system. All Legal Advocacy services are confidential, available in Spanish, and are free of charge.

Civil Legal System Support: temporary/permanent protection orders, dissolution of marriage, allocation of parental rights (custody, child support)

Criminal Legal System Support: victim impact statements, crime victim compensation, connection with District Attorney’s Office, connection with police department

Legal Advocates are available at both the Boulder County Justice Center and the Broomfield Combined Courts to provide assistance, support, resources, and information to help survivors of domestic violence navigate their options for legal action.

Please note that SPAN advocates are not attorneys and cannot provide legal advice. As with any legal proceeding you may choose to pursue, it is always helpful to have legal representation or at least to consult an attorney.

To contact our Legal Advocacy Team, use our 24-hour Crisis Line 303-444-2424 or email hotline@safehousealliance.org.

The SPAN Advocacy Program assists survivors with obtaining civil protection orders. Court Advocates are available in both Boulder and Broomfield. Advocates can assist clients by providing support and information and answering general questions about the legal process. Court Advocates can accompany survivors to court for physical and emotional support.
